Product introduction
Clavam 625 is a prescription antibiotic that combines amoxycillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, with clavulanic acid, which protects it from being broken down by resistant bacteria. It is used for a range of bacterial infections of the chest, sinuses, ears, skin, bones, teeth and urinary tract. It does not work against viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu.
Storage: Store below 25°C in a dry place and keep out of the reach of children.
Uses of Clavam 625 Tablet
- Bacterial infections of the lungs such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
- Sinus and ear infections.
- Skin infections such as cellulitis.
- Bone and joint infections.
- Dental infections and abscesses.
- Urinary tract infections.
Benefits of Clavam 625 Tablet
By pairing two ingredients, the tablet can treat infections caused by bacteria that would resist amoxycillin alone. Taken for the full prescribed course, it clears the infection and relieves symptoms such as fever, pain and swelling. Finishing the course also lowers the chance of the infection returning or becoming resistant.
Side effects of Clavam 625 Tablet
Most side effects do not require medical attention and go away as your body adjusts. Consult your doctor if they persist.
- Nausea, vomiting and loose stools.
- Abdominal pain and tiredness.
- Headache, dizziness and an altered taste.
- Skin rash or hives.
- Vaginal inflammation or a recurring fungal infection such as thrush.
- Seek urgent medical help for severe allergy, swelling of the face, breathing difficulty or severe diarrhoea.
How to use Clavam 625 Tablet
Swallow the tablet whole with water, without chewing, crushing or breaking it. Take it with or just after food, spaced evenly through the day, usually two or three times daily as your doctor directs. Complete the entire course even if you feel better, because stopping early can let the infection return.
How Clavam 625 Tablet works
Amoxycillin weakens the protective wall that bacteria build around themselves, which causes them to die. Some bacteria make an enzyme called beta-lactamase that destroys amoxycillin. Clavulanic acid blocks this enzyme, so amoxycillin can keep working against those resistant bacteria.
